About

Ven. Ngawang Tenzin at Gaia Forest

Welcome. This is the personal website of Ven. Ngawang Tenzin (Dr. Alex Anderson). Here I share information about upcoming and past retreats, talks and other events. You will also find a small and searchable library of resources, such as audio and video recordings, links, suggested readings, and downloadable text resources (chanting, glossaries etc.). Here you will also find a summary of my journey so far, my practice and study interests, and a way to contact me (if I don’t reply quickly, its because I have “gone to the forest” ;). For information about our project to build space for mindfulness, meditation and nature connection in the mid-north coast hinterland of NSW, Australia, please visit the Gaia Forest website

A note about the site title:

“Gone to the forest” is a translation of the Pali “araññagato”. This word appears in the introduction to both ānāpānassatisutta and the satipaṭṭhānasutta, in the phrase “araññagato vā, rukkhamūlagato vā, suññāgāragato vā” - “gone to a wilderness, or to the root of a tree, or to an empty hut” - instructions related to finding suitable conditions for the cultivation of mindfulness. It has also been my life-long tendency.

For a little more about my journey so far, please see my Bio page, or for more detail - this CV.
