Dharma Talk: Zen and the Art of Acceptance — Finding Ground for Healing and Growth in Times of Sudden Change

January 15, 2025 — Armidale Buddhist Group, Armidale, NSW

The qualities of kindness and compassion are universally valued in spiritual traditions as a foundation for ethical conduct. As the first two “Immeasurable Minds,” in Buddhist meditation we often find them mentioned alongside their companions joy and equanimity, yet these latter can sometimes be overlooked or misunderstood. In this discussion we explored with Ven. Tenzin some concrete practices for cultivating these fundamental qualities of our humanity by linking them to awareness of breathing and mindfulness in daily life. Tasting their fruits, we can draw on them as a base and resource in times of challenge and disruption.
