Video: Qi-gong — Mindful Movement Practices
A series of movement and breathing practices (57 minutes) drawing on principles found in Qi-gong, Yi-Jin-Jing and Hatha Yoga. The emphasis here is not on …
A thank-you gathering celebrating two decades of Yatra — the bushwalking pilgrimage community that has walked quietly across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, fostering a culture that has connected thousands of dharma friends along the way. Held at Yarralen Retreat on the Mid-North Coast, Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 September.
Thank you to Ronny, Amalia, the organising team and all the facilitators and participants for a wonderful and nourishing time together at Yarralen Retreat. Celebrating community, connection to country and the Buddha-Dharma has never felt more relevant and important.
Highlights for me were the heartfelt and generous Welcome to Country from Gumbynggirr elder Uncle Micklo, and the beautiful closing ceremony spontaneously co-created by all. Here’s to another 20 years of Yatra :) - “towards freedom”.
During the gathering I offered a morning movement practice, a metta (loving-kindness) meditation, and facilitated the session “Dharma in Uncertain Times” - bringing together insights from meditation teachers Carol Perry, and Emma Pittaway, and author Karina Shields . We explored the Four Brahmaviharas (loving kindness, compassion, altruistic joy and equanimity) through an improvised theatre activity, and concluded with a journey together through a guided meditation version of the Cosmic Walk - “Our Life as Gaia”. You can revisit the practices I shared via the recordings below.

A guided loving kindness (mettā) meditation.
If you’d like to go deeper, I recently completed a 15-part morning meditation series on śamatha, vipaśyanā and mettā bhāvanā, recorded during teachings with His Holiness the 42nd Sakya Trizin at IBA Kathmandu — see The Complete Path: Morning Meditation Sessions during H.H. the 42nd Sakya Trizin’s TCP7 for the full series, transcripts and suggested reading.
I live entirely through the generosity of fellow practitioners. If you have found these practices beneficial, please consider making a small donation to support my work.
We also have a project on the Mid North Coast of NSW to create space for śamatha, vipaśyanā and vajrayāna retreat. Located on Gumbaynggirr country on the beautiful Dorrigo Plateau, Gaia Forest also protects an important patch of old-growth rainforest. You can come to visit for retreat and to volunteer. To find out more, please visit the Gaia Forest donation page.
